E-Ink renders color differently from a backlit LCD or OLED. Without careful processing, photos can appear flat, grainy, or lose detail in skin tones and subtle gradients.

The InkyMax Image Engine processes every photo locally using custom dithering algorithms calibrated specifically for the six-color Spectra 6 palette. Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and cropping, or choose one of our ready-made image presets.

Your photos are processed locally and are never uploaded to the cloud.

Why We're Building InkyMax

We wanted a digital frame that felt like a lasting part of the home—not another screen tied to an app, subscription, or cloud service.

Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in electronics and imaging systems, we created InkyMax with solid German hardwood, replaceable AA batteries, local photo storage, and custom image processing calibrated specifically for the Spectra 6 color E-Ink display.

We chose durable materials and carefully engineered low-power electronics instead of designing for the lowest possible price. The result is a frame built to look natural in your home, protect your private photos, and keep working without depending on our servers.

We now have functional prototypes and are preparing for production. Our Kickstarter campaign will help fund certification and the first manufacturing run.

How does the frame run for up to 5 years on AA batteries?


E-Paper (E-ink) technology only consumes energy when changing the image. Once a photo is displayed, the screen draws zero power to hold it on display indefinitely. By using low-power hardware architecture and entering a deep-sleep state between image refreshes, InkyMax runs for up to 5 years based on four AA lithium batteries (based on one image refresh per day). Actual battery life depends on battery type, refresh frequency and time spent in Wi-Fi mode.



Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. InkyMax is built on a 100% Zero-Cloud philosophy. You do not need to download any app, create an account, or grant internet access. To change photos, just open a web browser page or use an offline microSD card.

What happens if InkyMax as a company stops operating?

The frame’s core functions do not depend on InkyMax cloud servers, a subscription, or a proprietary mobile app. You will still be able to display stored photos, use the offline microSD card mode, and access the frame through its local web interface.

Your frame will not lose its essential display functions because an external cloud service is discontinued.

How are photos optimized for the Spectra 6 E-paper screen?


The Spectra 6 display delivers vibrant, print-like color using advanced E-Paper technology. To ensure every image looks crisp and natural, our built-in InkyMax Image Engine processes files locally using custom dithering algorithms.

Before sending a photo to the frame, you get full creative control: fine-tune brightness, contrast, crop, and saturation locally, or simply apply one of our calibrated one-click presets designed specifically for full-color E-Paper.

How do I change the image on the frame?

You can change the photo in three ways:

  1. Tactile Tap: Gentle tap on the wooden bezel.
  2. Timer Schedule: Set automated daily, weekly, or monthly rotation via the local interface.
  3. Manual Upload: Upload a new image anytime using your browser or microSD card.

Where are the wooden frames manufactured?


Each solid-hardwood frame is precision-made and finished in Germany by specialist frame makers. Our custom low-power electronics are manufactured by an ISO-certified European partner, followed by final assembly and quality control in Portugal.




Do you have a working prototype?


Yes. We have built and tested functional prototypes, including the custom electronics, battery-powered operation, local browser interface, image processing, and Spectra 6 display control.

What happens if the Kickstarter campaign does not reach its funding goal?


Kickstarter uses an all-or-nothing funding model. If the campaign does not reach its funding goal, your pledge will not be collected and we will not receive any funds.

When will I receive my InkyMax frame?


We will publish a detailed production and delivery schedule before the Kickstarter campaign launches. The estimated delivery date will be clearly shown on each reward tier.
